1. What new skills did you learn as part of this unit?
Some new skills I learned in this unit would be scoring with clay. When you have a separate clay piece that you need to add onto the original clay tile then you do "slip and score" where you take a sharp edge and cut into the clay slightly to get some clay to rise up and you'll have "scratches"on the clay. You do this as well with the other piece. You then add a little water and then just press it on. I also learned how to do a value drawing and make it look realistic with shading.
2. What project from Unit 3 did you find to be the most successful? Why?
I found my clay tile to be the most successful, although it is not done yet. I made the NC State wolfpack mascot look realistic with making the design 3D by putting different pieces of clay on top of each other. The teeth kind of pop out, and I took out the clay in the background to make the whole face pop out of the clay. I think once I have all the colors on the clay piece, it will look really cool and realistic in a way.
3. What media are you interested in using again and why?
I am interested in using either clay or painting again. I felt they were really fun to work with. Doing the value drawing was kind of stressful because the whole point of it is to make the object look realistic and that has always been a big struggle for me. I enjoy the care-freeness of the clay and I just enjoy the way a paintbrush full of paint feels on paper.
